Expressive Rights Alliance is a Deja Vu-funded group
Washington strip club monopoly owner "Deja Vu" has a long standing history of exploiting dancers and pushing against pro-dancer regulations, policy, and business practices. When it comes to changing the industry, lawmakers prioritize the dancers/workers' needs and input over corporate interests. To bypass this prioritization of dancer interests, Deja Vu has created the non-profit group "Expressive Rights Alliance" and is presenting it as a dancer group that works with club owners, without divulging that it is funded, monitored, and run by Deja Vu.
Expressive Rights Alliance seeks to propel Deja Vu's interests and agenda, like pushing against capping house fees, fair termination practices, security minimums, and staff training, all while touting that the Expressive Rights Alliance represents dancers. Expressive Rights Alliance is classified as a 501c6 business association, a type of organization which exists to advance business interests; this is the same type of organization as the Association of Washington Business, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and other business lobbying groups. The Expressive Rights Alliance website even invites dancers to divulge personal information and opinions, without stating that Deja Vu staff will be reviewing dancer submissions. Deja Vu and the Expressive Rights Alliance spread misinformation and misguide dancers by organizing as a worker group without being totally transparent.
We must continue to be vigilant in making sure that dancers have access to unbiased, safe, and transparent support in their fight for more rights and protections.
